Mrs Poteracki's class reads Henry's Freedom Box

Today we learned about Henry "Box" Brown and how he mailed himself to freedom! We even tried out a box to see what it would be like to spend 27 hours in the darkness waiting to reach Philadelphia.

Celebrating Ruby

This week, in recognition of Black History Month, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders learned about Ruby Bridges and her role in the civil rights movement. We read portions of her autobiography and saw some short films depicting what it was like for Ruby on her first days at a school where the parents and teachers did not want her there.
